Christ Himself is our Peace

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through FAITH.”
– Ephesians 3:16

Do you know that feeling? Do remember it? Perhaps you’re experiencing it right now – a time when life leaves you standing still and your world gets quiet enough that all you can hear is the beating and the breaking of your heart. And yet, it is in the silent moments of a broken heart that we can hear the sound of God’s voice. It’s in the emptiness of a broken heart that we allow God to fill us with His Presence. In times when all we have are uncontrollable tears, deep sobs, and trembling shoulder, we cry out to God – praying relentlessly through the spaces of our brokenness. And then it happens: “out of ashes, comes beauty,” (Isaiah 61:3). In the ashes, everything we thought was important and everything that we thought would bring happiness and peace, quickly fades into the background, and a humble and vulnerable spirit recognizes that nothing else, but the gift of God alone, matters and truly satisfies.

God knows that we need a Savior. He gives us his “good news” to invade all the bad news of fear, guilt, shame, depression, loneliness, despair and all the indignities and iniquities of this life. What a “busted up” world we live in today. If we are honest, each one of us feels anxious about life in some way, believing deep inside that there’s got to be more, and wondering what God intended for us when He created perfect peace and harmony in the Garden of Eden? Where are you going, Sis, to soothe your heat’s longings and desires?

Unfortunately, too many of us rely on ourselves to assuage our brokenness. Haven’t each of us said at one time, “if I was …”; “if I had …”; “if I was more …”; (you fill in the blank), then I’d be happy? We are convinced that a better version of ourselves could make the difference in our contentment. But here is the TRUTH – the inner longing of our soul will never be satisfied by us or by the things of this world. We make horrible gods. Here is the good news! God loves us and knows this. “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. (That’s us!) God demonstrated his unconditional love for us with the gift of grace. (Romans 5:6)

What an incredible gift! Salvation is a gift we don’t deserve. It can’t be earned – only accepted! There is nothing to do but wholeheartedly trust in Jesus as our living Savior: Then watch what God can do, because “anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17) This is the first step to peace – simply accepting God’s good gift, the gift of unconditional love through Jesus Christ.

Sis, you are so loved.
